ABOUT THE PROJECT

COMMUNICATIVE ENGLISH

Effective communication:

•    Facilitates proper learning.
•    Understanding of information.
•    Builds a sense of confidence and leadership qualities.
•    Basic literacy and numeracy are acquired in elementary school.
•    If language and communication skills are imparted effectively- our students will be better and independent learners in their life.
•   Teachers’ competency in communicating with students and adults in Standard English and Hindi leads to better language in students.

With a vision to acquire one of the most important and effective skills of 21st century, the Project "Communicative English" has been initiated for the development of spoken English skills of the teachers under Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Varanasi Region.

Fluency in spoken English is prerequisite for professional development of teachers. It is the need of the hour to have proper knowledge of spoken English and exposure to the same.

It has been realized that most of the teachers hesitate while speaking in English. Moreover, they do not get the environment to converse in English. As a result the desired level of proficiency in English has lapsed somewhere as far as day to day conversation is concerned.

Students imitate and copy teachers' talks, their accent, tone, modulation, pronunciation and various other language expressions. So, teachers need to be very much sensitive and correct while interacting with the students.

During the transaction of any learning activity in or outside the classroom, language plays a vital role in effectively imparting the concept to the students. So, the teachers need to be accurate and confident in use of English while conversing.

Initially, the Project was launched for the Primary Teachers and later on the Trained Graduate Teachers are also involved in the Project. The first phase of 50 Conversation Cards were developed by conducting a workshop involving teachers and students. The cards lay emphasis on Situational Conversations, Vocabulary, Structures, Comprehension of passages etc. Teachers need to rigorously practice the cards in order to achieve the desired proficiency in Communicative English.
